It's important to give time, Bishop says, but it’s equally important to support the programs that help our neighbors in need with financial gifts. Giving to the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign is an easy way that all Virginia Tech employees can make a difference in the lives of others.

“I give because I want to make sure that those who are not as fortunate as I am have what they need.” Giving back to the community is simply about doing what’s right, according to Virginia Tech’s new Head Men’s Basketball Coach James Johnson. “We are really fortunate to have jobs at Virginia Tech and it’s important that we remember that and find ways to help others who are not as fortunate,” said Johnson who took on the head coaching position in April, having served as one of the team’s assistant coaches for five previous seasons.

      • John Beach's donations to annual charity helps save, protect lives

“I give because the support of our local volunteer rescue squads and the members of the community that staff them, in particular the students at Virginia Tech who give considerable time to the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad, is important to me.” The Virginia Tech Rescue Squad is an organization that John Beach and his wife have supported for more than 34 years. He and his wife both served on the squad as students at Virginia Tech and went on to serve on various rescue squads for more than 20 years and they continue to support the organization financially though gifts to the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) annually.
